i'm sure you have "stumbled upon" this already. but i find it so interesting. favorite new website. streetartutopia.

whale, come with me whale.

so i got this book for a dollar at What's On Second. i love old hard back books. so i HAD to buy a few with hopes to use them as sketch books. i chose this particular book for the sea foam green and the illustrations pretty much exactly copying hokusai's the great wave.

i found some watercolor paints i used in high school and decided to paint pictures using song lyrics. the first song i chose is "whale" by yellow ostrich ( i thought it'd be appropriate for the book). i've only started but it is fun to do, since all i do is drink icees.

they weren’t built to last.

these are pictures i took of an abandoned building in downtown montgomery. people often overlook the beauty in destruction. i personally love to find beauty in everything.

 

anytime you are intrigued by something. take a picture of it. these pictures have inspired me for many of my pieces.

i made a resolution.

do not fail, as you go on, to draw something every day, for no matter how little it is, it will be well worthwhile, and it will do you a world of good. {cennini}

 

these are outcomes of super boring classes. they were all drawn my senior year in my school planner. i never thought about what i was drawing. i sometimes drew my teacher or my hand and sometimes i drew things from my imagination.

i wouldn't call myself a great drawer. but i love to sketch and the more i do it the better i become. i've realized how observing something and drawing it opens my eyes to what something really looks like. 

many of my sketches inspired my pieces for my ap portfolio and were actually used in pieces.

sketching is observing. i agree with cennini. no matter if you consider yourself an artist, i believe sketching will do you good. i don't usually make resolutions for the new year, but i have decided to make myself sketch everyday. no matter if it's on a napkin from moe's or on the back of my hand.

come alive.
